THE Government’s school feeding programme is changing lives at Chilenje South Secondary School, with pupils and teachers reporting improved concentration, better health, and stronger bonds among learners since meals were introduced.
In an interview, one pupil, Jane Muyoya, said the initiative has been a relief for many students who previously came to school without food.
“The programme is helping many of us,” she said.
For pupils who arrive early, the programme has removed the stress of going hungry through long school hours.
Chelsea Banda, a Grade 10 pupil, said she and other pupils do not have to worry about lunch or having to go back home to feed, as there is enough food for everybody at school.
“This feeding programme has helped a lot of us, especially those of us who come early from home,” she said.
Another pupil, Esther Baadila, thanked the President for considering vulnerable children such as the orphaned learners, who, she said, are among those benefiting most.
“The feeding programme is a good initiative and a blessing to many pupils,” she said.
And head teacher Margaret Simuchimba said fellowship among pupils has improved as they bond over meals, and fights on school grounds have reduced.
“We thank the Government for this initiative that is helping the children,” she said.
