FROM displaying colourful artwork to taking visitors through lessons on how they have grown vegetables, pupils from RPS High Top Private School are proving that learning goes beyond the classroom.
The school attracted attention at the 98th Zambia Agricultural and Commercial Show in Lusaka, where pupils showcased their creativity, farming skills and practical abilities through a variety of projects. The exhibition featured hand-made items, art pieces, school uniforms produced by pupils, and vegetables grown by learners as part of the school’s practical learning activities.
At the school’s stand, visitors were welcomed by displays that reflect teamwork and the different talents of pupils from various grades.
Grade Seven pupils Anna Chanda, 11, and Tinashe Mwale, 12, explained that the exhibits represent the efforts of learners across the school, with each group contributing to the success of the display.
They said the school uniforms on exhibition were made by Grade Five pupils, while the vegetables displayed were grown by learners themselves.
The pupils said the projects are helping learners develop skills that can be applied beyond school. RPS High Top Private School, which caters for children from baby class to Grade Seven, travelled from Luapula Province to take part in this year’s agricultural show.
The young exhibitors said participating in the event has given them an opportunity to share their creativity, learn from other exhibitors and appreciate the importance of practical skills.
Visitors to the stand praised the pupils’ confidence, creativity and ability to turn ideas into products, with many showing interest in the handmade items and farm produce on display.
The 98th Zambia Agricultural and Commercial Show, held under the theme “Fostering trade and investment”, continues to provide a platform for young people and organisations to showcase innovation, skills and solutions that can contribute to national development.
