Joseph Kambele asks question Africa cannot ignore

MICHELLE KAHINGA

TWENTY-FOURYEAR-OLD Joseph Kambele, a Bachelor of Computer Science student, is already challenging one of the continent’s biggest questions: Who will save Africa? The Mulungushi University student has written a book titled “Who Will Save Africa? Rethinking Leadership for a Brighter Future”, a thought provoking book that urges Africans, especially young people, to stop waiting for heroes and instead become the leaders the continent needs.
Born on May 4, 2002, Kambele shares that he has chosen to question the reality of Africa’s potentials and challenges.
In the opening pages of his book, Kambele paints Africa as a continent with “two faces” – one rich in natural resources, talent and opportunity, and another scarred by poverty, corruption and disunity.
He argues that the contradiction can no longer be blamed on history or foreign influence. His central message is simple yet powerful: Africa will not be saved by outsiders, nor by one extraordinary leader.
He emphasises that Africa’s future depends on Africans themselves.
Drawing inspiration from visionary leaders such as Kwame Nkrumah, Patrice Lumumba, Julius Nyerere, Kenneth Kaunda and Nelson Mandela, Kambele reflects on the lessons they left behind while challenging today’s generation to write a new chapter for the continent.
Kambele invites university students, entrepreneurs, public servants and ordinary citizens to embrace responsibility for Africa’s future rather than waiting for change to come from elsewhere.
The final question he leaves readers with is deeply personal: “Will you be part of the answer, or part of the silence?” As he prepares to graduate from Mulungushi University, Joseph Kambele is proving that young Africans are not only preparing to enter the workforce.
They are also shaping conversations about leadership, governance and the future of the continent.
Kambele started writing the book in 2022 and published it on his birthday, the May 4, 2025.
It took him roughly three years to write and was published by Adri Print Solution.
He has two more books that he is currently writing and he says he can’t wait to share them with the world, though he has not confirmed their release date. After his graduation, Joseph plans on playing a part in national building.
The book “Who Will Save Africa” is being marketed on his Socials, TikTok, WhatsApp and Facebook. Soft copies are going at K150 and hard copies at K250.
