SIA wants more pupils in sport

Sport in Action (SIA) wants to see more school going children participating in sport next year.

Sport in Action executive director Frank Muchindu said in an interview that the future of sport in Zambia will be bleak if youths are not encouraged to take up sport.

He however, noted that young athletes should be left to pick a sport of their choice instead of being forced.

“We may have pupils that love karate, if that is the sport they have chosen we shouldn’t stop them but we should instead support them. Others love football, others basketball so it depends on one’s preference,” Muchindu said.

He said his organisation has already embarked on the program to provide sports facilities in various schools.

“We have so far built basketball courts and netball courts at different schools, this program is not only restricted to Lusaka but other parts of the country as well,” he said
