DO YOU love learning new things? Well, Mushokabanji Musheba sure does. She believes that learning is like a superpower that helps us grow and become amazing people. There is a popular saying “Develop a passion for learning. If you do, you will never cease to grow.” This has been Mushokabanji’s motivation since childhood, which has shaped her into the woman she is today.
Mushokabanji is not just any ordinary person- she is an educational psychologist, which means she helps children manage and cope with different feelings and experiences. She is also a teacher by profession and a psychosocial counselor. But that’s not all; she has also trained in cool stuff like occupational health and safety, project planning and management, monitoring and evaluation, community development and others.
When Mushokabanji is not busy being a superhero of education and counselling, she enjoys doing lots of fun things. She loves drawing, painting and digital art, she loves writing creative stories, watching exciting movies and TV series. She also enjoys listening to music and learning new things. Mushokabanji’s journey to becoming an educational psychologist was not easy, but she never gave up. It took her several years of commitment to learning and studying. She started her school in Livingstone, where she discovered her love for art and writing. During high school, she joined clubs and teams that allowed her to grow. This helped her understand that everyone experiences life differently.
“I embarked on a journey of self-discovery by exploring art and creative writing. Taking up these hobbies helped me to explore the exciting parts of my imagination and connect with my creative side,” she explained. After school, Mushokabanji pursued her dreams of becoming a counsellor and teacher. Supported by her mother, she attended the University of Zambia (UNZA) and graduated in 2020. Along the way, she trained in many areas and fields to become even better at helping children.
“I always knew I wanted to help others and my mother, who worked hard as a nurse, always supported and encouraged me to follow my passion,” she explained. Mushokabanji believes that young people should have the power to make important decisions that shape their lives, like choosing their future careers. This builds independence and teaches responsibility. Of course, parents are there to support and guide their children to ensure a bright future. Instead of choosing careers for their children, Mushokabanji suggests parents communicate openly and respectfully, valuing their children’s opinions and passions.
“When children pursue careers they love, they become part of a workforce filled with passion and dedication,” she advised. Encouraging children to make their own career choices allows them to plan for their future, promoting personal growth and self-discovery. When parents show faith in their children’s abilities, it boosts their confidence and drives them to set and achieve goals.
“With the right support, young people can create futures they are proud of,” Mushokabanji said. She believes that parents and guardians are important in children’s lives. While they want the best for their children, it is important not to impose their own dreams onto them. “Instead, parents should create an open environment where children can express their interests and dreams. By listening and offering guidance, parents help children understand their options and make informed decisions about their future,” Mushokabanji expressed.
She said encouraging children to explore their passions and talents from a young age sets them on a path to pursue fulfilling careers. So, young dreamers, always remember to dream big because your dreams are like flowers waiting to blossom. With the love and support of your family, you can explore all the amazing possibilities ahead. So, let your imagination soar, chase your passions, and never stop believing in yourself. Your journey to a bright and exciting future starts now.
