TO mark the International Day of Women in Diplomacy, which is commemorated on June 24th, the EU Delegation to Zambia and COMESA brought together diplomats and young women leaders to discuss ways to create more inclusive pathways into leadership.
The event offered an opportunity for women comprising those in senior management in Diplomacy as well as young women representing various projects and institutions to share opportunities for growth, and insights into different ways to navigate opportunities and challenges in career growth and advocacy.
The International Day of Women in Diplomacy provides a platform to celebrate the remarkable women shaping diplomacy and driving change around the world. Ambassador Stasiak, as a host, created a wonderful opportunity for the young women to strengthen their passion for advocacy, collaboration, and youth participation as they interacted and shared their stories.
Key recommendations included:
✨ More visible women role models
✨ Strong mentorship and sponsorship programmes
✨ Greater access to internships and professional opportunities
✨ Supportive networks and communities
✨ Family-friendly workplaces
✨ Diverse pathways into diplomacy and public service
When young women are empowered with opportunities, guidance and support, they become powerful agents of change for their communities, countries and the world.
