The Urgent Need for Sensitisation on Gender-Based Violence in Schools

Dear Editor,

I am a concerned student who want to express the urgent need for schools to implement comprehensive sensitization programmes on gender-based violence (GBV). Despite the increasing awareness of GBV in society, many students remain unaware of its forms, causes, and impact. Schools play a crucial role in shaping young minds, and it is essential that they address this issue.

GBV affects not only the victims, but also the wider school community by creating environments of fear and silence. Through sensitization, students can better understand the consequences of GBV, learn how to report incidents, and be empowered to stand up against it. Such education fosters respect and equality, reducing the likelihood of abusive behaviors. I urge the Ministry of Education to incorporate GBV sensitization programmes into the curriculum, so we can work towards a safer and more inclusive learning environment.
